CAPE VERDE AND THE BASKETBALL QUALIFICATIONS FOR BEIJING 2008!
Rodrigo Mascarenhas of Cape Verde’s national men’s basketball selection gave an interview to the site www.fiba.com in which he acknowledges that Germany, one of Cape Verde’s adversaries in the first phase of qualifications for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, “is the strongest in the group.”
According to the Cape Verdean basketball player, “things will not be easy for Cape Verde,” because, among other things, Germany is headed by “the fabulous Drik Nowitzki.”
Mascarenhas, who was interviewed by Júlio Chitunda, said he knew little about New Zealand, Cape Verde’s other adversary in Group B. “I only know they’ve been a regular presence in the Olympic Games and in World Championships.” This, in the view of the Cape Verdean athlete, “could be an indication that they deserve to be paid attention.”
In the face of the proven capacity of Cape Verde’s adversaries, the main strategy, according to Mascarenhas, should be reinforcements. One of these could be Ryan Gomes of the Minnesota Timberwolves. “Personally, I don’t know him, but he’s more than welcome,” said Mascarenhas in Luanda.
