NEW ROAD LINK TO BOA VISTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT & SANTA MONICA

The Boa Vista and Maio Tourist Development Corporation and Spanish company BUCAN will sign a protocol today for the construction of a road that will link Boa Vista International Airport to the district of Santa Mónica, where one of the island’s most famous beaches is located.

BUCAN will spend some seven million euros on the first phase of construction of the road, which will initially be 22 kilometers long. In its final phase, the road will have a total of four lanes and a total length of 26 kilometers, connect Santa Mónica-Lacacão to the airport and the island’s new sea port.

In early 2008, a bid will be held to determine the construction company that will execute the project, which is expected to be concluded by April of 2010.

The protocol, which will be signed in the Hotel Dunas, also includes the production and distribution of electricity and potable water, the collection and treatment of residual waters so as to satisfy the needs of at least 30,000 hotel rooms, and improvement on work on Sal Rei sea port.

The Boa Vista and Maio Tourist Development Corporation administrative council will also meet with the Boa Vista municipal chamber this afternoon to sign a protocol through which the Corporation will provide urban planning and execution services to the municipal administration. In exchange, the Boa Vista municipal chamber will give the Boa Vista and Maio Tourist Development Corporation the right to carry out grant licenses for the execution of tourist-related real-estate projects on the island.
