NEW PUBLIC BUILDING ZONE

The Ministry of Finances and Public Administration and the Ministry of Infrastructures, Transportation and the Sea have joined forces to set up a zone for the construction of a number of public buildings as a way of resolving problems related to inadequate installations for public services and high rent costs.




In order to house these new spaces, the government has reserved a 90-hectare area, which it is calling “Zone K,” according to a Council of Ministers resolution passed on September 29 of this year. The zone is located approximately two kilometers from the city of Praia on the road leading from the capital to nearby Cidade Velha, near a section of the recently-opened Praia traffic ring.

Zone K is intended to become a sort of “Brasília” for Praia, contributing toward the de-concentration of services in the capital and simultaneously creating new poles of development, according to a communiqué from the Ministry of Finances and Public Administration. The State Finance and Public Administration Secretariat and the State Patrimony Department met at the beginning of this week with Ministry of Infrastructures officials to outline a joint plan of action for the realization of the project.

According to Leonesa Fortes, adjunct state secretary to the Minister of Finances and Public Administration, construction and urban infrastructure work on Zone K is expected to begin as soon as possible.
